Taper Madness and More

Only a few days to go! I'm getting pretty nervous. But I'm also excited.

I haven't fallen down the stairs again, which is good news. My tailbone still bothers me in a number of situations but the pain I feel while running is really more of an annoyance. There is no telling how it will feel after 26 miles but I will have to face it when I get there.

Since I last wrote, I had a birthday. It was pretty laid back and I liked it that way. Well, except for the flat tire I had to deal with during the day after I got my pumpkin (pumpkin!) muffin at DD. I'm looking forward to seeing Manhattan Transfer at The Blue Note next month. My wife got us tickets!

My last long run was on Saturday. I managed 8 miles pretty uneventfully. I was relieved. Tonight I did just two miles and tomorrow I am planning on one last run with the team.

With the taper in mileage, I am now able to obsess over what the weather will be and what I will wear! I'm nervous about it being really cold. But I think I've finally figured out what I'm going to do: short-sleeved shirt under my long-sleeved shirt, with my singlet over top and sleeves underneath. I have layers and the sleeves can be adjusted if I get too hot. I plan on wearing gloves as well. I might only really need them at the start but they are cheap so I can toss them later if they are a bother.

In the next day or so I will probably write out my whole race plan. I'm hoping to learn from my mistake last year and stick to it more carefully this year. Hopefully writing it out will help.
