Time seems to be flying. And I haven't updated in a while. I continue to be so appreciative of all those who have donated. It is really wonderful to feel like I am really making at least a tiny difference with my effort.
Saturday my long run was "only" 10 miles. I was looking forward to a drop back week but with hurricane Danny on the way, I was thinking I might be in some trouble. And I was. I ran the entire 10 miles in the rain. Mostly it poured. I was absolutely drenched. I stopped a few times to attempt to wring out my shirt but it didn't really help. For the most part, my feet avoided getting squishy until I inadvertently stepped in a big puddle and spent the last few miles just waiting for it all to be over. My iPod stopped working at one point so I was wet and running in silence. What a perfect mental test for marathoning! I also realized that the while spots I kept noticing on my shirt were detergent being washed out!
When I got home, Ren was there to bring me two towels (one to stand on and one to dry off with) and a big plastic bag to put all my clothes in. They went directly into the washing machine and I went directly into my cold bath to soak. Unfortunately, as I was draining the tub and preparing for my hot shower and looking forward to finally being dry and clean, Ren yelled from downstairs that the tub was leaking into the kitchen! Great! I hadn't yet paid the plumber for the LAST visit to our place! Thankfully, the dripping isn't too bad and only dripped when the tub was draining and not during showers so we'll be able to make it without a deluge until the plumber can get back.
Sunday we drove to Philadelphia for an overnight "vacation" and a short but much needed break from the day to day. It is only about a two hour drive from where we live. We had one really great meal out, complete with wine pairings, took a more fun than expected night time bus tour, people-watched in Rittenhouse Square, had perhaps the oddest room service experience ever, toured Eastern State Penitentiary for longer than people really should, ate a requisite cheesesteak at Jim's, and walked A LOT. We really crammed a whole lot into our two day summer vacation!
Unfortunately, I seem to have picked up a cold along the way. So today I stayed home from work and have attempted to feel better but mostly I have been sniffling all day. I should go for a run today but I'm going to cancel because I think I need to rest and hope that tomorrow I feel better.
