I was planning to wait until pay day but because it came so close to the half marathon, I had to bite the bullet and get some new gear. I went to Paragon Sports first because my New York Road Runners membership gets me a discount. They have a large array of sports clothing and gear but though I was able to get a new pair of shorts, they were sold out of my shoe, didn't have the Gu I wanted, and then said that the shirt I was buying was NOT actually 20% off like the sign said. I got the shorts and some Sports Beans and a hamstring brace. Then I was so annoyed with the other stuff that I forgot to give them my NYRR card! Argh.
I really just shouldn't bother going anywhere besides JackRabbit Sports. As a frequent shopper there, I automatically get 10% off just by giving them my name. They had my Gu, had my shoes in stock, the detergent to wash my stinky technical fabrics, and a moisture wicking shirt for $5! Plus, they are nice there. I feel faster just being in the store.
So last night I got on my new shoes, shorts, hamstring wrap, and shirt and went for a run. A short two miles to test out the gear, test out the shoes, and see how my hamstring was feeling. Why did I wait so long to get new shoes?!?! They aren't called the Cumulus for nothing. Though I sometimes feel like I need to be wrapped in neoprene before heading out the door. The wrap felt good and the shoes were awesome. So it was a really comfortable two miles. I'm relieved.

I totally agree about the shoes. My knees can almost predict when I have run over 350 miles in a pair.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's key to have a neighborhood running store that you can count on!
So glad you got new shoes........and I do not understand all that other gear but it is runnerspeak I guess. I see more of my posse have contributed to your fundraising. I am so happy!!!! Go Pat!
ReplyDeletePS I am trying to walk every day (2 miles) because I keep telling myself, if she can run 26.2 miles then I can at least walk for two!
Love you!
